Anker Nebula is a well-known projector brand. It has expanded its product lineup with the introduction of two new models – the Anker Nebula Cosmos Max and the Anker Nebula Cosmos. The company had started a crowdfunding campaign for these projectors on Kickstarter with a target goal of $50,000. However, the funds have already exceeded $1,500,000 with almost 1,800 people backing Anker’s initiative. People believe in the company’s current product portfolio and its execution capability, which is evident from the fact that the campaign raised 300 times more money than its target.
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max aims to deliver a 4K experience to the viewers in an affordable package. It is a DLP projector with 4K UHD resolution (3840 x 2160). The projector is equipped with a 0.47” 4K UHD DMD chip from Texas Instruments having a native resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. It uses pixel-shifting technology for enhancing the resolution, which is expected considering its price tag. 4K projectors costing twice as much also use the same technology for projecting imagery and don’t have a native 4K resolution. However, it is not an issue for a home theatre projector as most users won’t notice a significant difference between the imagery of 4K UHD and native 4K projectors. Also, the image quality of a 4K UHD projector is going to be much better than a native 1080p projector. It makes sense for the users to consider a 4K UHD projector over a 1080p projector if they are priced close to each other.
An LED bulb acts as the light source in the Anker Nebula Cosmos Max projector. It will last longer (up to 30,000 hours) and provide better colors as compared to lamp projectors. The 1500 ANSI lumens brightness rating of the projector makes it suitable for most areas. Rooms with large windows or high amounts of ambient light may require some way of controlling the natural or artificial light. It can project up to 150” imagery and will be suitable for large rooms. You can adjust the size of the projected imagery using the remote. The projector has a standard throw ratio of 1.2:1 and will have to be installed at some distance from the screen.
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max Features
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max has a plethora of features despite its affordable price. The projector supports HDR10 content as well as the HLG standard used for broadcasting. It projects a wider range of colors that results in vibrant and colorful imagery. The images will have better whites and black levels as well in comparison to SDR projectors. You can watch movies and TV shows in their full glory.
It is capable of playing Dolby Digital Plus content and supports 3D audio for a more immersive entertainment experience. You hear crisp dialogues with a 360° audio experience. The projector boasts of four 10W speakers that will provide decent sound quality for home use.
When it comes to image correction, Anker Nebula Cosmos Max features keystone correction and autofocus. Its autofocus allows you to set up the projector easily. It will make the projected imagery sharper without the need for manual intervention. The keystone correction enables you to rectify disproportionate images in case the projector is not perfectly aligned as per the screen. There is automatic horizontal and manual vertical image correction (both up to ±40°). It will impact the image quality somewhat as compared to lens shifting as keystone correction processes the imagery. However, no projector at this price range will support lens shift for image correction.
The Dynamic Smoothing technology of the Anker Nebula Cosmos Max projector is perfect for watching sports and playing games. It improves the framerate which smoothens the imagery and reduces blur. You can use it with a gaming console or computer.
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max OS
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max is a smart projector. It has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of flash storage. Its operating system is based on Android 9 and has many smart features, including support for Airplay and Miracast. Users who love mirroring content from their iOS or Android devices will find the feature handy. You can stream movies through your smartphone or supported devices and watch them on a large screen. It has a dual-band Wi-Fi for connecting the projector to your home’s wireless network. You will be able to install applications from your favorite streaming services, like Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, etc., for watching content.
The I/O panel of the Nebula Cosmos Max projector is decent. It comes with two HDMI ports and a pair of USB 2.0 ports as well as Bluetooth functionality in addition to the Wi-Fi. You get a remote in the package that makes it easy to operate the projector. Additionally, Anker provides the Nebula Connect app that enables you to control the Cosmos projector from your smartphone. It is available for both iOS and Android devices.
Anker Nebula Cosmos Max Price and Availability
Along with the Nebula Cosmos Max, Anker also launched the Nebula Cosmos projector. Most of its features are the same, although there are some major differences. It is a 1080p projector with a brightness rating of 900 ANSI lumens. The device is not native HD and uses a 0.33” DMD chip from Texas Instruments with a resolution of 1368×786 pixels. It also has two speakers instead of four and comes with 8GB of flash memory. The Cosmos is a super-affordable 1080p projector for home use.
The Anker Nebula Cosmos Max is priced at $1699 but is available for as low as $999 on Kickstarter. Nebula Cosmos costs $699 but can be purchased by campaign backers for $429. You can save another $100 if you already own a product from the company (Capsule, Mars, or Prizm series). Anker expects to shift both the projectors to the consumers in April of 2020.
